It’s so nice to wake up to Jang Hyuk news and especially if they are accompanied with gorgeous photos. This time the stylist did a good job in taming “the hair” so it is easier to focus on his handsome face.
These photos are the result of a round of interviews done for the press as part of the Thorn promotion
Here are some excerpts from the interviews: (translation by Gumi)
He mentioned he does not plan to be a regular on Variety Shows anytime soon. He mentioned he wants to to do a “special project” every 10 years. And that project will be a one time thing.
Q: Kim Sooro recommended you to do theater. Do you want to try it?
A: I do have admiration for the stage. But as of now, I’m more attracted to portrayal through video.
He said “Real Men” was a healing experience for him “It wasn’t because I wanted to do Variety shows that I chose to do Real Men. I wanted to reflect on my past and have a good influence on my future. It definitely wasn’t only for fun and quitting was also a careful decision. It was not easy”
They asked him if he keeps in touch with Real Men members. He said he has not recently, but he invited some soldiers on vacation to the Thorn filming site.

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but now that it is official I can’t stop moping! Jang Hyuk is leaving MBC Sunday Night’s reality show Real Men, to concentrate on his acting career.
I meant to post this before, but it took me the whole day to adjust to this jacket :p
Yes! this time my big trauma is this strange jacket and pants, and boots combination (I’ve made peace with the Edward Scissorhands hair). My first reaction was outrage! “unfriendly words” were directed at his stylist. But after I had a proper meal and took a much needed nap (possible real reasons for my anger) I have come to accept this look. Mind you, there were people on twitter who praised his jacket for being “different”and “original”.
Oh but what is this you ask? It is the MBC Entertainment Awards, where Variety/Reality and Comedy shows that aired on the korean network MBC during the past year, get recognized. Real Men and its members individually were nominated for different categories and brought home quite a few awards:
Kim Sooro = Excellence Award
Jang Hyuk = Popularity Award – Variety Show (shared with Noh Hong Chul from Infinity Challenge and Defconn from Alone
Hyungsik = Rookie of the year
Sam Hammington = Rookie of the year and “Person who can’t do anything right” Award (Son Ji Young got robbed!)
Seo Hyung-Suk = Popularity Award – MC (shared with Kim Gura from Radio Star) and something else I don’t know
Son Ji Young = He won something but I don’t know what
Ryu Soo Young = Same here
The Real Men team also won the Scriptwriter Award given to Happy Sunday’s Shin Myung Ji. I find it very interesting that this scriptwriter is a woman.
Here is a video put together by Zoi from the Just…Jang Hyuk blog. You can see Jang Hyuk accepting his award (He looks better walking and talking)
Jang Hyuk’s acceptance speech as translated by Soompi:
First time at an Entertainment Award
Didn’t imagine he would win such a big award.
When he first went to Real Men, he thought it was really hard. But now he has a lot of great colleagues. Couldn’t sleep before but now he is here
Doesn’t know what to say.
Finished off the year on a high note thanks to Real Men
Thanks the staff and his colleagues
Always be healthy. Thank you

The Real Men crew joined he Navy on episode 28. It has been a lot of fun, although the first part of the training was tough, very strict and our guys were serious most of the time. They had to march even on the hallways and every little mistake was punished. The slideshow below includes mostly Jang Hyuk though. I had to summarize things a little so I had to focus on him (the subject of this blog) During eps 28 and 29 we saw our Jang Hyuk charmingly fail at swimming and singing.
I won’t be able to recap every episode of Real Men since I’ve fallen behind, but I’ll do my best to at least show you highlights of my favorite moments.
On ep 24, we see our guys training at the Military Police Unit (I’ve googled but I have not been able to identify what the equivalent would be in the U.S Military world, not that I know much about that either. I’m sure our korean friends will be able to guide us) Anyway, the most important thing is, we see our guys dressed in nice swoon inducing uniforms and even in suits (a la James Bond) *swoooooonssss* And we get to see Jang Hyuk doing some gloriously badass martial arts moves but we also see his “humanity” once again when we find out, the man can’t tell left from right lol! Yup! Jang Hyuk could very well play a new SUPER HOT and ADORKABLE version of Maxwell Smart (from the series and movie Get Smart)
